Crock Pot Chicken with Verde Sauce Burrito’s.

Hi Everyone!

It has been quite sometimes since I have been blogging, and I thought I would get into the swing of things again.  I wanted to let everyone know that I will be making some changes to the look of the blog (s).  Some name changes have been made, the sights have been swapped and a new theme!…. yes, i have been making some changes.  So- here I am apologizing for any confusion that might arise, any surplus of posts and emails you might receive.  Who knows, you may just find yourself reading it for the first time, or all over again.🙂

http://www.otownmommy.wordpress.com is now the site for my day to day fun stuff.  Our life with the kids, fun activities we do and recipes we make.  the old 365 stuff.  still needs a facelift though.

http://www.three6fiveofme.wordpress.com is the same, just won’t be adding any new content to it any longer😦 waaaa waaa

http://www.vtown2otown.wordpress.com (used to be the otownmommy url) -is the site where you can read (or relive) the journey taken by our little family.  Moving from Vancouver to Ottawa.  Still in a working progress, and I will be changing the timeline on it so it has a more realistic feel… i know, get on with it already eh!

hope this clears up some of the confusion

slow cooker beef with mushrooms

I am trying out my slow cooker today again.  Had to wipe the dust off of it.  I thought I would also get Loveliness to help me make dinner and maybe she might just enjoy eating it as much.  This recipe calls for lots of mushrooms, so I thought I could get her to “mince” a few.  Just like in one of her favorite Disney movies “Princess and the Frog”, Loveiness learned how to mince mushrooms just like Prince Naveen.

  • 2lbs (apx) Mushrooms – stems removed and broken in quarters and some “minced”
  • 2 yellow onions diced
  • 2 green onions diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic quartered
  • beef roast (or any cut of beef you like)
  • 2 cups of beef broth
  • 2 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • cracked pepper
  • salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp thyme

Lay onions and garlic on bottom layer.  add mushrooms then place meat on top.  mix broth, Worcestershire, balsamic vinegar and pour over meat.  add spices and bay leaf.  cook on low for 9 hours.

hopefully I will post a pic of this delish served on a plate.  side it up with some mashed potatoes or some mashed cauliflower.

Organizing the TOY CHAOS

When you come over to my house be warned.  I have a “living room.  It is exactly that:  a living room.  we do all our “living” in that room.

There are – on most days-

  • toys all over the floor
  • DVD’s and Video Games on the tv table and high surfaces
  • Dust bunnies and fluffy bunnies under my couch
  • artwork drying
  • every single “surface” covered with some sort of book, paper, clutter item

This is, as I mentioned, on most days.  I clean it up but it still seems to look like that 15 minutes later.  Amazing how that works eh?

So this week I am trying to tackle the toys that clutter the floor in my living room.  You know the ones.  The random headband that fits on the pony with the sparkly blue hair.  The Gold Lame shoe that fits on Bell.  The tiny Quincy that fits in Rocket.  These random little parts that go with something.  You find them, and sometimes put them in your pocket for later so you can put them with the rest of the stuff they go with.

I have tried to put all the individual items in little zip lock sandwich bags so I can keep them with each other.  I am not sure if that is working though.

Some of these things are just big and cumbersome like the shape sorting blocks that I seem to find everywhere.

Anyhoo.  So yesterday we spent the entire afternoon cleaning up all the toys from the living room.  We brought up the toy box and put it in Sunshine’s room.  Now Sunshine and Loveliness have matching toy boxes in their rooms.

This morning I took a shopping bag and asked Loveiness to choose 5 toys and one book to put in the bag.  I also asked her to choose the same for Sunshine since she is so little and probably would not be able to choose the ones she wanted.  We brought the bag downstairs and at lunch time we are going to collect the toys and choose new 5’s for the afternoon.  At bed time we are going to pack them all up and bring them back upstairs.

I am hoping that this will encourage them to play with toys that they otherwise overlook.  So far this morning it hat done just that.  The little toy cars that light up and make noise were a big hit today.  I am sure “they” were thrilled to get so much attention.    We will also see if this helps them to make decisions on what they want to play with, learn a little about how choices work and help them with tidying up and putting their toys away.

As with everything, I am flying by the seat of my pants.  Lets see how this works.  I would also love to hear about what you have done or do to keep toys where they belong.  Please comment, I love comments and always write back Smile

Childs play turns into Jackass

I had originally thought it was cute toddler play.  Bringing the sand on to the slide.  Packing it down.  I have seen it a few times before but not as extreme.

ok- maybe it was bigger kids.

Bigger kids packing the slide with as much sand as possible.  Seeing how much dirt they can get on it and then collide into it as they swoosh towards it.  I thought: hmmm that sounds like fun.

A few weeks went by and then I saw what had progressed.  Last night I looked through my window and saw the kids (pre-teens), loading the ramp with the sand and packing it on to make what looked like a ramp.  After I watched them do this for about 15 minutes they went one step further and slid the giant toy dump trucks down the ramp.  The two trucks  didn’t jump that far, but they got some air.  One kid marked a line in the sand where the furthest truck had landed.

Here is where it all went horribly, horribly wrong….

They decided it was a fun idea to stand at the line and hold their crotches out and slide the trucks down the slide in hopes to bag themselves.  Each kid took turns standing at the line, laughing and being “scared”.

I watched in disbelief as the truck came inches away from their junk!

Luckily no one got hurt, and they were all just fooling around.  Laughing and holding each other at the line. I wonder if this is a “guy” thing. Handsome just laughed when I told him what the kids were up to.  Do all guys do this kind of thing?  Total weirdness, I am so happy I have two little girls.  If my son ever came home and told me he got blasted in the pants with a Tonka truck I think I would probably think he was an idiot.

wordless Wednesday

In true fashion I can never be “wordless”… all I have to say is

Can you guess which one was made on a Monday….

What she is up to when she is really quiet…

“Look Mom! don’t I look beautiful?!”

It seems that she found another use for the “Reaching Stick” (originally used here )

The door to her room was closed, and she was very quiet.  I called out to her and she didn’t answer.  It seems she was busy, I enjoyed a few minutes of quiet.  Loveliness is always talking so when she is quiet she is either sleeping or up to something that requires a lot of attention.  Usually the latter and because she never naps (other than accidentally in the car sometimes)

There she was, so proud of herself.

“look what I did Mom!”

“how did you do that?

“I used the Reaching Stick”
